University of Texas – Austin

Thursday, November 3rd, 2005

We just were down in Austin, home of the main University of Texas (UT) campus, for the Ausin City Limits festival and had the opportunity to briefly make our way around the campus. Austin is a great city and probably one of the cleanest and most modern “college towns” I have had the fortune to visit. If the University of Texas was on my list of potential schools to attend, I would give it serious consideration based on the town of Austin alone.

Reasons to Attend the University of Texas

But, the town a school is located in is not reason enough to attend a college or university, is it? The University of Texas is a school rich in heritage and lore and one that boasts a great business school, visual and performing arts program, as well as a great social sciences/history program.

Degrees Offered

UT offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees.

UT Class Sizes / Campus Size

The UT campus is quite large with attendance at the Austin campus at close to 40,000 students between full-time and part-time enrollment. That is a large campus. But, everything in Texas is big right? That is part of the UT experience and if you are looking for a small school, then this is not the place for you. UT is all about the big school experience…and it is also about sunshine and some heat in summer. :) Amazingly enough, class size at the University of Texas is kept very small, especially by today’s state school standards. Over 41% of the classes have fewer than 20 students, and just over 40% have between 20 to 50 students. The number to focus on is the large percentage of classes having fewer than 20 students. That is pretty amazing especially when you consider the size of the university.

Financial Aid

Around 70% of students who attend UT apply for some kind of financial aid. Of that 70%, around 55% receive aid of around $7,500 on average. The average in-state tuition was $4,250 and $10,790 for out of state students. Tack on another $6,000 for room and board.

Texas College Guide Opens Its Doors

Thursday, November 3rd, 2005

We are proud and happy to announce that we have finally made our way around to launching a site here called Texas College Guide. The idea behind TCG is to profile Texas colleges and universities as well as vocational and trade schools to help students in Texas and elsewhere learn more about what thier schools have to order. Other areas that will will cover include test preparation, for the SAT and ACT tests, admissions essay advice and some general tips and timelines that will help to ease the process of selection and application.
