Cosmetology Schools in Texas
Monday, May 1st, 2006
For many students today, a 4-year college is not in their future. This is not because they are not able to attend four-year school, but because they are choosing to do something else. Many are choosing vocational or trade schools like nursing or Cosmetology. We just came across a great resource for students seeking more information about cosmetology schools in Texas. If this is something that you might be interested in, then you may well find this site helpful in making your choice. There are a number of different cosmetology schools as well as other trade-type schools in Texas listed on the Colleges in Texas site. Don’t let the name fool you.
University of Texas Computer System Hacked
Thursday, April 27th, 2006If you are a Uuniversity of Texas student or faculty member then you should certainly pay more attention to your credit report and financial information in the coming months. A computer hacker has compromised the UT computer system and was able to obtain over 100,000 social security numbers and names.
A hacker compromised the business school computer system and obtained the names and Social Security numbers of 106,000 people, including all faculty and staff, most students and about half the alumni, a UT official said Monday. Dan Updegrove, the universitys vice president for information technology, said there have been no reports of identity theft but urged anyone who feared it had happened to register a fraud alert with a major credit agency. He said the universitys help desk is getting about 150 calls an hour, mostly from alumni, after announcing Sunday that nearly 200,000 electronic records at the McCombs School of Business had been illegally accessed. The school is working with federal, state and local investigators, but Updegrove declined to comment on specifics of the investigation. He said officials are still focusing on potential – more available

Texas Hunter Education
Monday, March 6th, 2006Well, we all heard about VP Cheney’s hunting accident. The interesting thing is that we have received a number of emails asking us about information on hunting education. Of course, we don’t have any resources listed here specifically about hunter education in Texas, but that is something I am going to look into when time permits. So, if anyone has any information or links to good sources of information, please leave a comment here or shoot me an email (no pun intended) and we will create a page for hunting education. It is clearly a good idea to learn proper techniques for hunting.
University of Texas Students Vote on Alcohol vs. Pot
Thursday, March 2nd, 2006Across the country, most schools view the use of alcohol and marijuana differently. The students of the the University of Texas have said otherwise. In a vote that took place this week, University of Texas students have voted (a nonbinding referendum) to equalize the penalties for alcohol and marijuana violations. I think President Bush is not going to be too proud of his hometown students.

But, seriously, now everyone has access to just about every school, university and college inside the state of Texas…and there are a lot. All of this comes at the low, low price of free. That is right, you can read the latest news and headlines for all of the schools, plus learn how to apply and hopefully in the near future, tips for each individual school. So, let us know what you think and what changes, if any, you think we should make.

12th Man All About A&M?
Thursday, February 2nd, 2006 Apparently some people over at Texas A&M University have something to say to the Seattle Seahawks about their use of the “12th Man” concept. The Seahawks will be playing in the Superbowl this Sunday, in case you live in a cave, and have been using the 12th Man concept to represent the team that is not necessarily on the field…get it? WEll, it turns out the 12th Man was an Aggie and A&M Athletic Director Bill Byrne says the Office of Collegiate Licensing wants the Seahawks to stop using the number 12 on any merchandise. Funny thing is, they have been doing so for 22 years. Makes you wonder if there are more important things in the world. By the way, take all of those 12s off of your elevator buttons too.
